RONAN - Flathead Reservation fire officials are now calling six fires in the Dixon-Perma area the "Dixon Complex" fires, and a Northern Rockies Interagency Incident Management Team from northern Idaho, under the leadership of Incident Commander Allen Chrisman, is assigned to manage the fire complex.

Germaine White, fire information officer for the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Division of Fire, reported on the wildfires on the Flathead Reservation on Thursday.

"The Dixon Complex is a series of six lightning fires that started on June 30, totaling 470 acres. Two of the fires are located northeast of Perma and four are located southwest of Dixon. The fires are generally accessible. Serious hazards exist for the firefighters with areas of heavy timber and snags along with steep, rocky slopes. Fuel types are ponderosa pine and Douglas fir," she said.

The Selow 2 fire remains the most serious. Crews continue exterior line construction and burnout of unburned areas within the fire perimeter. The other five fires are 80 to 100 percent contained.

There are 377 total personnel, including 12 20-person crews, assigned to the fires. Equipment includes two helicopters, four dozers and excavators, and 10 engines and water tenders.

Fire officials are asking the public to use common sense and observe fire safety rules. Use of fireworks is restricted on tribal forest lands.
