Montana Fires At A Glance

(AP)Here is a summary of the major wildfires in Montana:

Wedge Canyon _ The fire, about three miles west of Glacier National Park and six miles south of the Canadian border, has burned 29 buildings, including six houses. It has grown to 21,373 acres. Some evacuations and road closures. About 1,050 firefighters are assigned. Twenty-five percent contained. Suppression costs $7.3 million to date.

Robert _ Threatening West Glacier and Glacier National Park headquarters just outside the town. Estimated at 18,715 acres. Began in the Flathead National Forest and burned into the west edge of the park. About 500 people evacuated from West Glacier area. About 900 firefighters assigned. Five percent contained. Major burnout taking place to protect buildings in town of West Glacier and the park's Apgar Village.

Trapper Creek Complex _ On Flattop Mountain, a remote area north of Going-to-the-Sun Road in the north-central part of Glacier National Park. Estimated at 18,600 acres. About 35 percent contained. Part of Going-to-the-Sun Road is closed from west entrance to Logan Pass. Still open on east side of park. Many Glacier area, on the east side of the park, has been reopened to visitors, but some area trails remain closed.

Black Frog Complex _ Combined Blackwall and Frog Pond fires in the Bitterroot and Beaverhead-Deerlodge national forests. Total 7,600 acres. Showed increased activity Tuesday, with some torching of individual trees. Better mapping decreased the fire's size. Thirty-five percent contained with More than 800 fire fighters on the scene. Some travel restrictions on U.S. 93. Frog Pond Fire is about four miles southwest of Lost Trail Pass in the Bitterroot. The Blackwall Fire, 20 miles west of Wisdom in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, burned into Montana from near Salmon, Idaho. Suppression costs $5.8 million to date.

Hidden Lake _ Estimated at 3,500 acres in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest 30 miles northwest of Dillon. Firefighters wrapping fire in a fire line. Some evacuations; 222 firefighters, two helicopters and five water tenders. Seventy percent contained.
