Phoenix thrash Knights, move to 3-0
By the Missoulian

The Missoula Phoenix had little trouble scoring on the ground or through the air on Saturday as they beat the Glacier Knights 49-0 at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

The Phoenix delivered three touchdowns on the ground and four through the air on the way to their third win of the season.

Missoula's scoring outburst started behind running back Gavin Johnson. The 6-foot, 245-pounder ran for two touchdowns in the opening minutes of the second quarter to give the Phoenix an early 14-0 lead. Johnson added another touchdown in the third quarter to finish with three on the day.

Missoula's passing game received plenty attention as well.

Phoenix quarterback Shane Jurasek hooked up with receiver Dave Garza for three touchdowns. Two of the strikes were for 49 yards and the third was for 7.

Missoula's backup quarterback Derek Biggs wrapped up the afternoon with a 30-yard touchdown to tight end Ja'ton Simpson.

The Phoenix are now 3-0 on the season and have a bye next week. Missoula travels to Helena the following week to face the Titans.
