A thorough search of his desk this week produced no crystal ball or magic cards, so we must assume it’s 100 percent knowledge. We will continue to monitor his calls to the Psychic Network, which he insists are for entertainment purposes only.
Dundas is one of two Missoulian Gen-X prognosticators enjoying a stellar season. While the Missoula native is setting the pace with a 35-7 mark, Nick Lockridge is right on his tail at 34-8 despite a recent sabbatical in central Montana to bag a wily antelope. Lockridge has promised the sports staff some surplus jerky, but so far the growl of empty stomachs has fallen on deaf ears.
This Saturday presents an opportunity to make up some ground. Cal Poly (4-3) at Idaho State (3-4) is a head-scratcher, and the Big Sky’s Man in Black, Portland State coach Jerry Glanville, may be on the wrong end of this weekend’s upset special if his team is caught looking past Weber State to No. 3 Montana next weekend.
Season record: Fritz 33-9, Bill 33-9, Nick 34-8, Chad 35-7
The Picks
• No. 3 Montana at Northern Arizona: NAU is 3-0 at home this season. But the Lumberjacks like to run the football, and the Griz defense is tops in the league against the run. One other point: Montana coach Bobby Hauck is 4-0 in games against NAU skipper Jerome Souers.
Fritz: Montana 23, NAU 10. Bill: Montana 28, NAU 24. Nick: Montana 27, NAU 17. Chad: Montana 35, NAU 28.
• Weber State at Portland State: The Vikings are a model of inconsistency. Three weeks ago they went to Eastern Washington and shocked the then-No. 21-ranked Eagles. But they’ve lost their last two games and three of their last four. Which Vikings team will show up Saturday is anyone’s guess.
Fritz: Portland State 33, Weber State 16. Bill: Portland State 34, Weber State 28. Nick: Portland State 33, Weber State 24. Chad: Portland State 27, Weber State 20
• Cal Poly at Idaho State: Cal Poly had a four-game winning streak snapped with a 48-35 loss at South Dakota State last week. Idaho State is coming off a 38-20 home win over Portland State. The Bengals may also benefit from their dome-field advantage.
Fritz: Idaho State 27, Cal Poly 20. Bill: Cal Poly 30, ISU 20. Nick: Cal Poly 30, ISU 21. Chad: Cal Poly 35, ISU 14
• Eastern Washington at Sacramento State: The Hornets have played well at home. They scared the Griz tough two weeks ago before succumbing, 17-3. They pounded Northern Arizona on Sept. 29, 38-9. But the Eagles may have too much offense.
Fritz: Eastern 20, Sac State 12. Bill: Eastern Washington 27, Sac State 10. Nick: Eastern 34, Sac St. 18. Chad: Eastern Washington 31, Sac State 17.
• No. 19 Montana State at Northern Colorado: The Bobcats have allowed 12 touchdowns to Northern Colorado’s 42. Enough said.
Fritz: Montana State 24, UNC 21. Bill: Montana State 29, UNC 7. Nick: Montana State 29, UNC 10. Chad: Montana State 28, UNC 7
