The Missoula County Airport Authority Board made it official Friday: Cris Jensen, now the airport director at Elko Regional Airport in Elko, Nev., will be the new director of Missoula's airport.
Jensen has a bachelor of science degree in aviation studies, with an emphasis in management, from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., and has more than 14 years of experience in the airport industry.
In making the announcement, Janet Donahue, chair of the Authority's personnel committee, touted Jensen's "extensive background in airport operations and management."
Jensen worked at Reno/Tahoe International Airport for a number of years as its noise abatement coordinator and airport operations officer.
He also worked five years for the U.S. Bureau of Land Management as a fire suppression specialist.
"Cris comes highly recommended by his current and former employers," Donahue said. "Missoula is very lucky to find such a well-rounded, well-respected and well-educated person. The Authority looks forward to a long, healthy relationship with Cris."
Jensen takes the place of former airport director John Seymour, who resigned after admitting to embezzling funds from the airport. He will be sentenced on Monday.
In a written statement, Jensen said the job in Missoula is "an exceptional opportunity, both personally and professionally."
"I look forward to becoming a part of the Missoula community and the airport family," Jensen said. "I hope to continue the momentum created by the outstanding members of the board and the extraordinary staff."
The Missoula County Airport Authority Board, through the use of an airport executive recruiter, received more than 100 applications for the job - and interviewed 10 applicants.
Said Donahue: "I feel we did a very thorough job of looking into the personal and professional backgrounds of all applicants we interviewed, and we have found a person who will meet the high ethical and professional standards that the Authority Board and community demands."
Jensen will start his new position on Aug. 8, and will oversee the Missoula airport's management and operation.
