Hamilton Mayor Jerry Steele has proclaimed the week of July 1-7 “Independents Week,” a salute to Hamilton’s independent businesses.
Steele saluted “our community members and locally-owned independent businesses, who are integral to the unique flavor of Hamilton,” and he honored their efforts to make Hamilton “the place we want to live and work.”
The proclamation recognized that individual spending decisions made every day affect Hamilton’s future, and that the health of the local economy is reflected by support for “businesses owned by our friends and neighbors.”
Those business owners also give back to the community in goods, services, time and talent, according to the proclamation.
July’s First Friday falls on July 3, and while the downtown association plans no organized celebration, many businesses will extend their hours that evening, and several will be open on Saturday, July 4, as well. Lawrence encouraged residents to bring their friends and family downtown, to enjoy the “unique flavor” that Hamilton has to offer and “to support the core of local independent businesses that make Hamilton our home.”
