Board members, staff and volunteers from Sparrow’s Nest of Northwest Montana will be spending the night of Saturday, Dec. 9, away from the comfort of their homes to raise awareness about and funds for unaccompanied homeless high school students. They will experience only one dimension of homeless, for one night. They will not experience the uncertainty of having a place to sleep tomorrow, feelings of insecurity and lack of safety that our homeless high school students endure day after day.

They will sleep outside the St. Peter Lutheran Church, 201 Wisconsin Ave., in Whitefish from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Some will sleep outside the house, on the lawn in sleeping bags, others in their vehicles; much like some of our unaccompanied homeless high school students do on any given night.

The group is sleeping out to understand for one night what homeless children in Montana experience. They hope to raise awareness surrounding the issue of unaccompanied homeless youth in the Flathead Valley and raise funds for Sparrow’s Nest of Northwest Montana’s Whitefish and Kalispell House.

Sparrow’s Nest of Northwest Montana is a new organization based out of Kalispell that provides resources and safe housing for unaccompanied homeless high school students in the Flathead Valley. Their goal is to work with the community to help these students graduate from high school and become productive members of our community.

They are looking for sponsors as well as parties interested in joining them as they sleep out for our homeless high school students. For more information or to sponsor them, visit sparrowsnestnwmt.org, call 406-309-5196 or email admin@sparrowsnestnwmt.org.
