Middle school

Paul Dalenberg, Washington Middle School; Arthur Befumo, Five Valleys Homeschool in Missoula and Austin Graef, Sussex School, won the top honors at the State MATHCOUNTS Competition and will represnt Montana in the National MATHCOUNTS Competition.

Adam Lunday received the Frank Hervey Cook Scholarship at St. Paul's School, a 9-12 boarding school in Concord, N.H.

The following area students were named as winners in the SAT Challenge sponsored by the Montana Association of Gifted and Talent Education - Missoula: Gavin Ploger, Paul Dalenberg, Stella Shannon. Corvallis: Jesse Knapp. Students from St. Joseph School include Zachary Burke, Noah Eikens, Margaret Mitzel, Chase Leclercq and Stephen Sellman.

High school

Morgan Trigg, Missoula, has been named to the honor roll at Phillips Academy.

Diego Steele, a senior at Sentinel High School, was the winner of the fifth annual Montana Poetry Out Loud state finals.

The following area students earned honors at the American Indian Business Leaders competition held at Fond Du Lac College in Carlton, Minn., April 8-11 - Big Sky High School, first place in the Business Plan Competition, Shenace Weasel, grade 10, president and Fredrick Moss, grade 10, vice president/treasurer. Hellgate High School, first place in the Chapter of the Year Competition, Robert Hunter III, grade 12, president and Alex Shade, grade 10, vice president. Willard Alternative High School, recognition plaque for New Chapter of the Year, Danielle Freemont, grade 12; Jonnine Hernandez, grade 11 and Sterling Littleleaf, grade 11.

The following students were presented the A.C.E. (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award from the Missoula Exchange Club - Morgan Taapken, Alberton High School; Diego Steele, Sentinel High School; James Bollen, Valley Christian High School; Asley Mix, Hellgate High School; Sheila Emry, Big Sky High School; Brook Petersen, Willard High School; Jessica Stoneman, Frenchtown High School.

The Montana Rech Regional Science and Engineering Fair was held March 9 in Butte. Big Sky High School received the trophy for top performing high school. Overall winners were Emilee Williams and Jessica Stevens, Sentinel High School and Rodolfo Villarreal-Calderon from Big Sky High School. Luke VonLanken, Sentinel High Schoool, won the Montana Tech Silver Access Award.

The following Hellgate Latin student received awards for the National Latin exam: Latin III - Will Hunt, summa cum laude and gold medal; Max Egenhoff, cum laude. Latin II - Adelheid Langer, magna cum laude; Sala Clark, cum laude; Anica Preston, cum laude; Katja Cassidy, cum laude; Nicole Bigsby, cum laude. Latin I - Benjamin Klempay, maxima cum laude and silver medal; Shawn Belobraidic, cum laude; Sancho Ridesatthedoor, cum laude; Lacy Morgan, cum laude.

Blackfoot Telephone Cooperative awarded scholarships to the the following area students - Andrew Clark, Alberton; Jennifer Keller and April Burnett, Arlee; Jessica Anderson and Kristi Fullerton, Charlo; Jordan Collins and Brianna Jesse, Drummond; Riley Detwiler and Shelby Swant, Noxon; Elly Hogue and Steffani Linn, Philipsburg; Bryce Benson and Charles French, Plains; Robert Hall, Potomac; Jasmine Gilleard, Rachel Jensen and Christopher McCollum, St. Ignatius; Tyler Chessman and Heather Pruitt, St. Regis; Ashley Holmes, Jessica Lester and Anna Wood, Seeley Lake; Velita Benton, Karli Cavill, Hannah Peters and Ethan Snell, Thompson Falls.

Andrew Clark, of Alberton, received the Ford Family Foundation scholarship.

Roman Stubbs, sports editor of the Montana Kaimin, the University of Montana student-run newspaper, won first place in the Hearst Journalism Awards.

Aimee Reed, a student at the University of Montana, was inducted into the Golden Key Honors Society.
