Lewis and Clark camped at Travelers' Rest near Lolo in September 1805 and again in June and July 1806. It's the only place in the United States where archaeological evidence of a Corps of Discovery encampment can be found.

Montana State Parks invites the public to enjoy a First Day Hike at Travelers’ Rest State Park on Monday, Jan. 1, at 11 a.m.

Join park staff for an easy hike through the Travelers’ Rest State Park trail system. Look for winter wildlife such as American Dippers, Belted Kingfishers, mule and whitetail deer, and racoon. Discuss winter ecology and how animals (including humans) deal with winter in one of three ways: migration, hibernation, adaptation. Learn what species are year round residents of Travelers’ Rest and those that we see more frequently in the winter and why.

For more information, call the park visitor center at 406-273-4253.
