A juvenile male mountain lion sits in a tree near Pineview Park in the Rattlesnake valley Wednesday evening after being treed by a dog. Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials shot the lion because it kept moving closer into town throughout the day despite efforts to scare it out of the area.

The hunting of female mountain lions in several Montana hunting districts in Regions 2 and 3 have closed.

• HDs 204, 260, 261 and 262 — which includes portions of Ravalli, Granite and Missoula counties.

• HDs 313 and 316 — which includes portions of Gallatin, Carbon, Sweet Grass and Park counties.

The closure notice for the hunt came shortly after Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials received word that the pre-established harvest sub-quota for the districts had been met.

For more information, visit FWP's website at fwp.mt.gov, choose "Hunting," then “Drawing & Quota Status,” or call the toll-free number at 1-800-385-7826.
