The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has identified the man who allegedly posed as a Coast Guard officer on a jet ski on Flathead Lake earlier this month and pretended to "take law enforcement action" against boaters.
Ryan Lowden, 33, will be charged with three felony counts of Impersonating a Public Official when he appears in Lake County Justice Court on Aug. 16 for an initial appearance.
On Thursday, Aug. 10, Lake County Sheriff’s detectives conducted a search at Lowden’s residence. Coast Guard clothing, similar to what witnesses had reported him wearing, was located.
According to Lake County Sheriff Don Bell, his office received reports of a man attempting to stop boaters in the river near Polson several weeks ago. When the sheriff’s office launched a boat, the man had disappeared. However, he showed up again and was allegedly boarding people's boats.
After boaters took a photograph of the man, deputies were able to get a number from the jet ski he was riding on, which had some sort of emergency lighting system.
