Carter Bird in Ground, 5, wanted to know who the odd creature was picking up trash in his Northside neighborhood Tuesday afternoon. She calls herself “The Golden Garbage Fairy” because “I make garbage disappear,” says Jo Nasvik of Missoula. Nasvik is on a personal crusade to draw attention to the amount of garbage in our world. With her small army of volunteers, she is in the process of cleaning Missoula, one residential neighborhood at a time. You can join in her quest by visiting garbtogold.org. The site will direct you to the area being cleaned on a given day. “Maybe people will join us,” says Nasvik. “You just have to wear a costume and show up. It is overwhelming. But if we can get the community involved it won’t take long.”
