As western Montana families and friends gather for Easter weekend, they will join for springtime traditions short- and long-lived, not the least of which are Easter egg hunts.

This week, we asked Missoulian readers to share information on public egg hunts in the area. This is what they said:

Saturday, March 30

• 21st annual East Missoula Easter egg hunt, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Lions Park, by Mount Jumbo School, 735 Michigan Ave. Free. Includes egg hunt for ages birth-12, games, prizes, free food, inflatables, gift basket, bouncy houses and more. Sponsored by the East Missoula Fire Department, East Missoula Lions Club and the River of Life Ministries.

For more information or to donate, call 549-5078.

• 13th annual Easter Eggstravaganza, 1 p.m., University of Montana Oval. There will be separate sections for birth-2, 3, 4-5, 6-7 and 8-9 age groups. One lucky child in each age group who finds an egg with a special coupon will win a brand-new bicycle. Children also can find special eggs with certificates that will bring them back to campus. UM has donated educational opportunities for children, including UM soccer and basketball camps, children’s dance lessons with UM Theatre and Dance, a birthday party at spectrUM Discovery Area, free passes to spectrUM and more.

During the event, parents can enter a free raffle for gift certificates to area businesses, including a $375 certificate for a family portrait session with Kristine Paulsen Photography. The Easter Bunny, as well as mascots Monte, Bolt and Red will be on hand for the fun. At noon near the grizzly bear statue, kids can explore with spectrUM Discovery Area and the Montana Natural History Center and take a tour of a Mountain Line bus. Call 243-5478.

• Third annual Missoula Phoenix Easter Egg Hunt, 3:45 p.m., Loyola Field. Stay after the hunt for the inaugural Missoula Phoenix RMFL Jamboree. The Phoenix along with the Glacier Knights, the Billings Bullets and the Utah Sting will play two games at the same time.

• American Legion Post 94 will hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10:30 a.m. at Lewis and Clark Park, Stevensville. Children ages birth-12 are welcome and the hunt is divided into four age groups.
