Missoula police and fire are investigating an explosion that blew out several windows in the apartments above Bernice’s Bakery late Tuesday night.

Missoula police public information officer Travis Welsh said the fire was extinguished by the time firefighters and law enforcement officers arrived early Wednesday morning.

“Things don’t just explode without a reason,” Welsh said. “We are trying to determine that through the investigation.”

A 46-year-old man residing in the apartment was uninjured, but Welsh said another male left the scene and is possibly injured.

According to a news release, police are searching for the second man “to check his welfare.”

The departments are also evaluating building’s structural integrity and safety.
