Missoula rural and city fire crews responded to a conveyer belt blaze on Wednesday morning in a wash plant at Knife River Corp. just off 40th Avenue. According to Rural Fire Deputy Battalion Chief Chris Newman, the wash plant was being dismantled when hot slag from a cutting torch sparked the blaze near the top of the tower. When responders arrived, flames and smoke had engulfed the upper reaches of the structure. Crews knocked the blaze back in minutes and no one was hurt in the incident.
