A Florence man is being held on a $75,000 bail after being accused of brutally attacking a woman he met through an online dating site.
Andrew Hoskins, 41, was arrested Saturday and made his first court appearance Monday on a felony count of aggravated assault.
According to a court affidavit filed in the case, a sheriff’s deputy and a detective spoke with a woman on Friday who was hospitalized following an incident at Hoskins’ home earlier in the day.
The woman told investigators she met Hoskins through an online dating service and went to his home. While the pair were talking, she said he “snapped” and dragged her into the bedroom by her hair. Court records say the woman reported that Hoskins punched her in the head and ribs, repeatedly hit her head against the floor and bit her.
The woman said she was able to get away and ran from the house to the highway, where she flagged down a passing car to get help.
The woman described Hoskins to the officers, who were able to identify him. When she was shown a photo of Hoskins, the woman confirmed that it was the same man.
