A 19-year-old Lolo man is scheduled to appear Thursday in Missoula County Justice Court after being accused of making threats against a school in Gillette, Wyo., according to the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office.
Erik Sven Wengren was arrested Friday and charged with disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor, according to Missoula County Sheriff’s Detective Jason Johnson.
A Gillette police officer contacted the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office “and relayed that Wengren had communicated with his cousin and various other people, who reside in Gillette, that he was going to commit a school shooting at a school in Gillette,” according to charging documents filed by Deputy Missoula County Attorney Jason Marks.
Deputies interviewed Wengren at his mother’s house, according to Marks’ affidavit.
“He admitted making the threats, but said that he had been joking and thought the people he had been communicating with knew that,” the affidavit said.
Wengren’s mother told authorities there are no guns in the home and that neither she nor her son owns a gun, it said.
Disorderly conduct is punishable by 10 days in jail and/or a $100 fine.
