A 45-year-old man accused of trying to kidnap a woman at knifepoint outside a Missoula casino this summer pleaded not guilty to the felony charge on Wednesday in Missoula County District Court.
Brian Young entered his plea to attempted kidnapping before retired District Court Judge James Wheelis, who has been brought in to oversee the case.
In early August, Young was charged after an incident at the Magic Diamond Casino on Brooks Street. According to court documents, police were called to the casino early on Aug. 3 and spoke with a woman who said she went outside to smoke a cigarette when Young — who had just left after playing keno — got out of his vehicle and brandished a knife at her, telling her to get in or he would stab her.
When two other customers came outside, Young allegedly sprayed them with pepper spray and drove away. He was arrested the next day and continues to be held on a $50,000 bail. His next court appearance is set for Nov. 15.
