Missoula police are interviewing a homeless man who allegedly attacked a woman while they were talking in McCormick Park on Monday afternoon.
Police spokesman Travis Welsh said Wednesday that the 33-year-old man sexually assaulted a 48-year-old woman after she took an interest in his life.
"She believed he was somebody that had potential as a human being, and she was trying to help him get his life back on track," Welsh said.
The woman reported to police on Tuesday that she and the man were conversing on a log in the park when the man grabbed her and wrestled her to the ground.
"She kept telling him no, don't do this and he eventually let her go," Welsh said.
Welsh said there was no evidence of physical injury and on the surface it appeared to be a misdemeanor assault.
By Wednesday afternoon, police officers had located the man and were in the process of interviewing him.
