Sanders County Sheriff Tom Rummel has released a few additional details about a murder-suicide that happened in Trout Creek over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Around 9 p.m. on Nov. 25, deputies were called to a report of two people shot at a home on Hope Valley Road near Trout Creek. On arrival, officers found Charles Moore, 83, who had been shot in the shoulder, according to a news release Rummel issued Wednesday.
A woman who died from a single gunshot wound was also found, but Rummel has refused to release her name, citing the wishes of the family.
The Missoulian has independently verified the woman's identity as 54-year-old Joanna Cameron, who worked for Missoula County.
Moore was taken to the hospital.
Deputies determined the shooter had fled the home. With help from Two Bear Air, he was located near the house, having died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Rummel identified the shooter as 64-year-old William Tyree.
"Further investigation into this incident had revealed that Tyree had been in a heated argument with Moore," according to Rummel's release.
