RONAN — Cheryl Ann Gardipe was born Dec. 19, 1959, and passed on Oct. 4, 2017, peacefully in Ronan.
She was preceded in death by her son Ta’a Charlie McKee; sister Sarah Gardipe Finley, nephews PJ, Eli, DJ and Jake; her yaya Mary Finley, and Whispering Charlie Finley.
Cheryl liked to bead, make fry bread, being with family and going to powwows to watch the dances. She liked to go to pool, the races, being in the woods, she also liked to do arts and crafts, making moccasins
For her nieces and nephews. Cheryl also enjoyed word searches and crosswords, a good sense of humor, sharing a good laugh while pulling pranks and many favorites like Pepsi and good cigs and the songs Cotton Eyed Joe, No Diggity, Dr. Dre. Queen Pin, and from A to Z by TLC. She attended school at St. Ignatius Ursuline, also going to St. Ignatius before attending SKC. She then worked at Forestry in Ronan and the Pablo Greenhouse, Jore’s and S/K Electronics.
She had her first daughter Ann with David Pokey Irvine and married Adrian McKee, later she married Pierre Malatare and they had a daughter Victoria. She is survived by her daughters Ann and Victoria (Doil); her mother Margaret Gardipe of Pablo, father Charles “Scotty” Gardipe of Evaro, sisters and brothers Geraldene of Pablo and Selena of Ronan, Terry of Pablo, Trena of Evaro; brothers Charlie of Pablo, Dan of Ronan, Mike of Pablo, Arnold of Ronan, Jon Gardipe of Evaro, and many nieces and nephews; nice grandchildren; Michelle, Terrance, Troy, D’Shaun, Valissa, Della, JB, Wes, Gabe and a great-grandchild.
A wake will start at the Longhouse on Thursday with a rosary at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, in the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission.
