LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. — Elizabeth Anne Cocchiarella passed away in her home on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, in the care of hospice surrounded with love.
Beth Cocchiarella, 69, was raised in Ovando on a cattle ranch, where she married Ron Cocchiarella on Aug. 27, 1971. Together they had two children, Rob and Anne. Beth was supported throughout her life especially by her extended family and the communities of Ovando, Spokane, Liberty Lake, Barton School (where she began volunteering in 1979), her New Zealand families of the Hiller Community Garden and the wonderful people of Mount Maunganui-Tauranga.
She was particularly inspired by the many students and teachers at Barton School and treasured her long association with the school under the direction of Mildred Scheel, a lifelong mentor of excellence.
She was also supported at various times by Manito Presbyterian Church, St. Stephens Episcopal Church led by Rt Rev John Hay and the Church of the Resurrection led by Rt Rev Brian N. Prior. She volunteered at the schools attended by her children, Meals on Wheels, the Spokane Conservation District, WALPA board, and the LLSWD advisory board.
Preceded in death by her parents Tom and Cora Barbour, she is survived by her husband, her children, her brother and sister-in-law Tom and Karen Barbour, and her nieces, nephews and their partners. With deep gratitude she misses her family traveling companions, Larry, Dennis and Chucki Cocchiarella. Supported by various caring individuals since her original cancer diagnosis in 2001, heartfelt thanks to the teams at Deaconess Hospital, Cancer Care Northwest, Sacred Heart Hospital and Hospice of Spokane. Compassion and excellence of care were her constant companions.
