MISSOULA — At only 38, Joseph "Happy Joe" Hackenbruck, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, from complications of the flu.
Joe was born on June 29, 1979, to Jerry and Linda Hackenbruck and spent his childhood in Oregon with his parents and five siblings, Heidi, Jennifer, Tommy, Molly and Julie. He graduated from Mountain View High School in Bend, Oregon, in 1997 and briefly attended Oregon State University before he fell in love with Montana and relocated to Bozeman. Joe settled in Missoula where he began building houses and pursuing a career as an electrician.
On July 4, 2005, Joe welcomed into the world his daughter Chloe. In 2012, Joe reunited with a high school friend, Amanda, and they immediately fell in love. They decided to build their family and life together in Missoula and Joe took on her five children, Josiah, Mason, Carter, Lillie and Bryson, as his own.
Joe took his love of watching hockey to the ice where he began playing and coaching. Most nights he could be found at the rink to play, coach or just watch and root on his friends. Being able to encourage kids and adults alike and pass on his love of hockey brought tremendous joy to Joe. In work, or hockey, or anywhere in between Joe truly loved to help those around him. Always willing to lend a helping hand, he lived life to the fullest and always had a smile and an inappropriate comment to share.
Joe's family invites you to join us for a celebration of his life on Sunday, Jan. 21, at 3 p.m. at Great Burn Brewery.
