BIG ISLAND, Hawaii — Laura died of cancer at age 63 on the Big Island, Hawaii. She was born in Michigan on Feb. 20, 1953. She graduated from Missoula Sentinel High School in 1973 as state women's backstroke champion. She earned a bachelor's degree from Penn State University and her medical degree from Temple University. Laura served as emergency medical physician in the states of Alaska, Hawaii, California, Oregon and Montana. Her time in Montana included service at Marcus Daly Hospital in Hamilton and at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
She is survived by her parents Ralph and Lillian Klawitter of Missoula, brothers Mike and Mark of Alaska and Montana, respectively, and sister Victoria of Delaware, partner Steve Trink, two daughters Arielle and Laila Moire' Selvage.
Laura's remains will be cremated with a memorial beach bonfire on the Big Island. She will be buried at sea.
