PLAINS — Norman Eldridge passed away in peace and comfort on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, he was 86.
He was born on his family’s ranch in rural Montana on June 13, 1931. He attended and graduated from Charlo High School, in 1952.
Norman joined the U.S. Navy and served aboard the Destroyer USS Harry S. Hubbard in San Diego and Okinawa, Japan. Following his service he was very active with his shipmates from the Korean War and attended yearly ship reunions for many years. He enjoyed getting together with other retirees from Local Union #62.
After he completed his apprenticeship in the plumbing trade he worked in Missoula for Lemke Plumbing. Norman became a plumbing contractor in 1960 and had membership in Plumber’s Local Union No. 459, 365 & 62
Norman is survived by his son, Randall Eldridge, daughter Sherilyn L. Cole, numerous nieces and nephews and their children He is also survived by five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and the extended La Haye family. Norman was preceded in death by his first wife, Nan Ora Eldridge and his second wife, Sally La Haye and sons Norman Lee Eldridge, Bryce Kevin Eldridge and grandson Andrew W. Eldridge.
Norman was a former resident of Aptos, California. A snowbird, he divided his time between family and friends in Santa Cruz County and his home in Montana. He was able to travel the world with his second wife, Sally.
The family would like to thank Norm’s best friends Norman and Joann in Montana for all they have done these many years. Norm will be missed by all who knew him. His passing was peaceful surrounded by close family.
Services will be held at Oakwood Memorial Chapel, 3301 Paul Sweet Rd., Santa Cruz on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that those who wish to keep Norm in their thoughts be giving and charitable, just as he was.
