Firefighters saved at least part of a home that caught fire Friday while still under construction near Lolo.

The home on Sleeman Creek Road, about two miles west of Lolo, caught fire late Friday afternoon, drawing firefighters from the Missoula Rural Fire District and the volunteer department in Florence.

Early in the evening, firefighters thought the house might burn to the ground, but MRFD Capt. Paul Finlay said crews finally got the upper hand.

"There is extensive damage, but there's also quite a bit of house still there," Finlay said Saturday.

Finlay said investigators are focused on the possibility that a pellet stove may have started the fire, but added that it's still too early to tell.

"Right now, we consider it still under investigation," Finlay said.
