I hope that our representatives will do not only what is necessary for our servicemen fighting abroad in these extended conflicts, but also what is needed by our women in the services and support legislation that allows the government to provide abortion options and other related health care, in the event of an unwanted pregnancy or reproductive rights issues.
At present, even rape does not provide an adequate justification for the costs of an abortion option to be covered by the military/government health plan that covers service women.
This is an outrage and a disservice to these women that is beyond comprehension. One wonders what kind of dedication to an ideal is required of servicewomen in the face of the horrendous statistics that indicate that rape/assault is most often perpetrated by their fellow soldiers in arms.
Shameful. We need to take care of all of the men and women who have made sacrifices to protect and serve our country, who have put their lives on the line to keep us safe. Let’s do our best to keep them safe as well. It’s the very least they can expect.
