At the risk of sounding redundant, I want to add my voice to those who were cheered by the recent legislative session.
Under Gov. Steve Bullock’s direction, united Democrats and critical help from a small but decisive number of GOP legislators in both houses passed laws to expand Medicaid for thousands of uninsured Montanans; put limits on campaign contributions to disclose the names of funders; and approved the long-discussed Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes Water Compact for a fair distribution of this precious resource.
There were other examples of real bipartisanship and we can only hope this will continue.
As stated by Bullock in his guest column (May 7), “Montana has set a new example for the nation.”
Will other states follow our lead? Perhaps we can begin to turn around our dysfunctional political system — and keep us engaged.
