Thank you to the Missoula City Council for unanimously passing voluntary Resolution 7869 promoting visitable homes in Missoula.
This resolution will provide an incentive for builders of single-family homes, duplexes and triplexes to build zero-step entrances, wider doorways, basic access to bathrooms and several other simple access features into homes. These features can be especially important for older adults and people with mobility needs. They also increase ease of use and provide other benefits to the general public.
Builders applying for permits with the city of Missoula Development Services who agree to meet visitability standards will receive fast-track processing for their permits. They will also receive a Visitability Certificate once the home is completed and is confirmed to have met those standards.
This visitability resolution is an important step for Missoula, and it will make our community a stronger and more inclusive place in the years to come.
