HELENA – U.S. Rep. Steve Daines, the leading Republican in the 2014 race for a Montana U.S. Senate seat, on Wednesday unveiled the first candidate-financed TV ad of the campaign.

The minute-long spot with Daines giving viewers his thumbnail biography began running on YouTube and other websites Wednesday and will start appearing on TV stations across the state Thursday and Friday, the campaign said.

Brock Lowrance, a spokesman for the Daines campaign, said the ad placement was a “significant buy,” but declined to reveal the specific cost.

Daines is one of six people running for the seat being vacated by Sen. Max Baucus, D-Mont., who is expected to be confirmed soon as the next U.S. ambassador to China.

Daines has raised far more campaign money than any of his competitors, with $1.9 million in his account as of a month ago.

Lt. Gov. John Walsh, a Democrat, is a distant second in the fundraising race, reporting last week that he had $435,500 in his campaign account at the end of last year.

The Daines TV spot has the congressman talking about his family and his career to viewers, appearing with his wife, Cindy, and their four children, and his father, Clare Daines of Bozeman.

“As your representative, I’ve been working to get our country back on track, fighting for more jobs and less government,” he says in the ad. “I’m running for the U.S. Senate because we need solutions, and Washington needs some Montana common sense.”

Daines was elected as Montana’s only congressman in November 2012 and is halfway through his first term. He announced last November that he’s running for Baucus’ Senate seat.

Two other Democrats also are in the race – Dirk Adams, a rancher from Wilsall, and former Lt. Gov. John Bohlinger – and two other Republicans as well – state Rep. Champ Edmunds of Missoula and Kalispell air traffic controller David Leaser.

DRM Steve has been so aligned with the tea party, and he did not stop the affordable care act. His ads make claims that are untrue. This last year the House has been an impasse, and we cant afford to have the same in the Senate. No more gridlock, the tea party and its supporters need to reach across the aisle. This makes for any great marriage.

Tea-Party owned Republican/GOP (Daines) conservative's buzz words = Tea-isms...

[and what they mean]

FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE = run the state into debt and spend your money, not mine!

QUALITY EDUCATION = cut funding for schools and library's... ( but, we did raise interest rates on student loans! )

LOW TAXES = for corporations... not for you!

JOBS = low paying without benefits!

OPEN GOVERNMENT = you don't need to know what's best for you!

SCIENCE = we know better, BP has everything under control... . Drill-Baby-Drill..!

ENVIRONMENT = who needs clean air and water if it cuts into profit... Spill-Baby-Spill..!

HEALTH CARE = just die, you can be replaced... note: birth-control!

VOTING = as long as you vote right! or... Vote as you are told...Woman!

ACCOUNTABILITY = Shut-Down? Don't blame me... The Tea-Party didn't let me Vote at All..!

CHOOSE RESPECT = men know more about a woman's body than you, just control your libido! Or... shut-up woman and make me a baby... and a sandwich!

BIRTH-CONTROL = it's all the woman's fault when a man makes a woman pregnant... or, it's not a mans problem/concern! ( just remember that penile-implants, as well as Viagra, are to be paid for by health insurance..! ;- )

ABORTION = we make you have the baby because men don't have to give birth... and men Don't have to be responsible for use of birth-control...

Please note the three most pathologic Daines haters. You'll never hear about the Koch Bros. unless from MM. It would shock you to see such total lack on integrity in reporting in the rags quoted by LosandfoundT (his credibility is not instantly destroyed because no one bothers to read this junk). libertarian makes it seem to be criminal to be conservative & run for election, or to be successful. Conservatives donate to Daines....these 3 hate THEM & him. The legislature normally doesn't LET freshmen be heard, on either side of the isle. None of them mention that their party tried to cut benefits to Vets. Their party has repeatedly blocked the job-producing pipeline, persistently for the last 6 years. Their party invented and supported ObamaDoesn'tCare destruction of the world's best health care system of all time. This one program is destroying more jobs in Montana, that is struggling to escape poverty, than any other single program or bill, ever. Now, they try to distort, lie about, & distract attention away from the good deeds of Daines in Washington. When Daines IS elected, all that we will hear from them is criticism. Where were they when Max was destroying our Health Care System, & then only say "I'm so sorry" after the fact? Give it up.

The guy is a fraud...also he had ads running during the Denver vs New England game a few weeks ago although those were put out by the Koch Brothers group I think. Solutions? What solutions? Fighting for more jobs means fighting to increase corporate profits....the worst is his need to side with the clown car Tea Party at every turn. He did break with them and voted for the budget that ewnded the government shutdown after he voted three times to shut down the government...etc etc etc till you just throw up from the hypocrisy of it all.....Should be a good battle this year and while I have little faith in Montana voters seeing through this Republican fraud...one can hope...At least acknowledge your ads...trying to hide the ones funded by out of state donors already huh Stevie?????

What has Daines done in the House? Not much and now he wants to carry that not much to the US Senate. With the House only working 116 days this year, Daines will be in Montana campaigning on the public's dollar.
