GREAT FALLS (AP) — The Great Falls Police Department is suspending its K-9 program indefinitely.
Police Chief Dave Bowen announced the suspension Thursday in a video posted on the department's Facebook page. He says some unfortunate incidents over the past 18 months led to injuries to the dogs and their handlers, leaving the units off the streets for an extended period of time.
Bowen did not say what the incidents were.
He says the decision to suspend the program is not a reflection on the officers or the dogs. The program's dogs, Hondo and Oakley, will continue to live with their handlers.
