BILLINGS - A Miles City house fire left one man dead Sunday night. Fire investigators are still determining the cause, said Miles City Fire and Rescue Chief Gary Warren.

Warren said the fire was reported on the 1000 block of Knight Street at about 7 p.m. and when crews arrived the home was filled with thick smoke. Firefighters entered the single-family residence and removed one man. They performed CPR on scene but he was pronounced dead at Holy Rosary Hospital.

Warren said the man’s age was not immediately available Monday morning and he will be identified by the Custer County Sheriff’s Office. He was a resident of the home and the only person believed to have been at the house at the time of the fire.

MCFR responded to the fire with an engine, tender, ambulance and command vehicle. Custer County also provided an engine and between the two agencies about 18 people were assigned to the incident, Warren said.

Investigators continue to work on scene. The fire’s cause and the damage to the home have not been determined.

“From the exterior you wouldn’t hardly know there was anything that happened,” Warren said.
