Three Missoula County Public Schools teachers have been recognized with Outstanding Elementary Teacher awards by the Missoula Education Foundation’s Student Board.

Receiving the awards were Claudia La Rance, Paxson Elementary School kindergarten teacher; Sherry Winter, Lewis and Clark Elementary School kindergarten teacher; and Brad Chumrau, Lewis and Clark Elementary School International Baccalaureate program director this year and fourth-grade teacher next year.

The Missoula Education Foundation's Student Board, which is sponsored by DIRECTV and includes two students from each high school, solicits nominations through MCPS and then makes the selections.

Normally, not as many elementary teachers are selected, but students were unable to choose between the three, said Jim Clark, Missoula Education Foundation president.

“I think it speaks very well for the quality of teachers in our district,” Clark said.

About 30 nominations were received from teachers, parents and students. Recipients received plaques and gift cards earlier this month and were recognized again during a MCPS board meeting.
