Dave Strohmaier announced Monday his candidacy for the Montana Legislature.

Strohmaier, a two-term member of the Missoula City Council, plans to run for House District 92, which includes East Missoula, Bonner, Milltown, Clinton, Seeley Lake and Condon. Strohmaier, who has served eight years on the council, works for Historical Research Associates.

“Helping get the Legislature back on track is the best way that I can contribute to public service at this point in time,” Strohmaier said.

In a news release, he touted his experience as a former wildland firefighter and as a legislator who will stand up for public schools, main street businesses, and Montana’s outdoor heritage.

In 2012, Strohmaier made an unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination in the U.S. House of Representatives race. His current term as a council member ends the first Monday in 2014.

Democrat Bryce Bennett represented House District 92 in 2011 and 2013. He said he plans to run for the House District 91 seat because of redistricting, which put the Rattlesnake as well as other parts of the city center in House District 91.

Dave, you have NO political future. "Montana looks to Missoula" for a good laugh, ask anybody in the Helena Legislature. YOUR political record is one of anti-business and vacant buildings, hilarious nanny state ordinances, relentless tax hikes, a shrinking University, "sharrows" painted over potholes, and a LAST place economy. Trust me, no one in Montana is looking to Missoula for that program. They look to Missoula and shake their heads.

Mr. Strohmaier says he reached across the aisle. I have to agree . He reached across to shake the hands of all the other Progressives(fake Dems) on Council. He has never met a raise in taxes he didn't like. Maybe if he gets to Helena he can vote to diet state roads and screw the state economy the way he has Missoula's.

Just what we need, another nutty liberal to embarrass the voters of Missoula.county. We have no credibility with anyone in the state when it comes to legislative discussions. Stroby should stay home.

The only people he cares about in Missoula are LGBT I'm not saying these individuals don't need an advocate but this guy ignores the rest of us until he see us doing something he doesn't personally value then he lights the torches grabs the pitch fork and tries to manipulate the current political climate to make changes the only service he provides to Missoula is limited to himself and a group he personally identifies with he may be the nicest guy in the world but he is not a leader and he falls short on the values the MAJORITY of us have.

Just what we need another person in Helena dictating what's best for us. We don't need more nanny type people in Helena. Dave will push for more useless laws and regulations on the rest of us.

Excellent point Independent. Stroby is a pure Progressive....it is extremely important that democrats learn the difference between "The democrats your parents told you about"......and todays democrats. The party has been entirely hijacked and commandeered by Progressives, there is no democrat party .....anymore. Were the lying Progressives to come out and call the party what it is.."The Progressive Party" ....they would have a mass exodus of members and contributors.

Strohmeier for the "Working Man"??? This would be laughable were it not such a lie. If you want more "Engen Economics aka Obama Economics" then vote for perennial loser Strohmaier.

BTW......you need some new friends Mr. Strohmaier.........some honest friends that will not fill your head with delusions.

First Dave is NOT a democrat he is a progressive new party member. After looking at the "contributions" Dave has made to Missoula - higher taxes, failing infrastructure, nanny state ordinances, stacking all our boards and commissions with carpetbaggers, just to name a few he's the last person with the skills to get the legislature back on track.
How many times have we heard Dave say "Montana looks to Missoula for leadership" the guy is absolutely delusional - Montana looks to Missoula for what NOT to do.
