BONNER – The student-centered Hooked on Art fair got even more student oriented this year, as students and art teacher Erin Roberts took over the organization of the show.
Students' work has always featured prominently in the art fair and this year will be no different.
The event at Bonner School, in its 10th year, celebrates Walter Hook, a painter, professor and one of the founders of the University of Montana's Department of Fine Arts.
"I think it's so important to honor Walter Hook," Roberts said, adding Hook is an amazing artist who was raised in Bonner.
In addition to his "Legacy of Bonner" mural, which has a permanent home in the school, other pieces of Hook's and student art will be on display Saturday. More than 20 art vendors and live music also will be on-site.
Kids will have an opportunity to take an art class from Bob Phinney from 10 a.m. to noon, and featured artist Bev Gluekert will talk about her role as a Montana woman artist and how Hook influenced her printmaking from 1 to 3 p.m.
Hands-on activities and student work are staples of the show, Roberts said.
"I just feel like Walter wouldn't want to have it any other way," she added.
The free community event begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 4 p.m. at Bonner School. For more information, go to bonner.k12.mt.us/hoa/index.html.
