A Troy resident died Sunday night in a one-vehicle crash on Montana Highway 56 at milepost 26.5.

Billy Don Norman, 29, was driving north in his 2007 Dodge Caliber when for unknown reasons he crossed into the southbound lane and crashed into a ditch, rolling his car several times before it stopped, said Sgt. Duane Bowers of the Montana Highway Patrol.

Norman was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover, which resulted in fatal injuries.

Norman was the only passenger in the car at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation, and early reports have determined the cause of the crash is consistent with a driver performing an evasive maneuver by swerving around an animal or other obstruction in the roadway.

The road was bare and dry at the time of the crash.
