The University of Montana on Tuesday moved to give students working regional fires more time to meet registration and financial aid deadlines for the fall semester.
The extension gives student firefighters until Sept. 16 to meet deadlines required for financial aid, registration, housing and other things.
“The extension applies to all students working in the firefighting effort, including those providing support services for fire crews, as well as National Guard members and other military personnel,” said Peggy Kuhr, vice president of integrated communications.
To take advantage of the extended deadlines and reserve a space in courses for which they are registered, UM students who are fighting fires must call 243-6599 by Sunday.
Kuhr said the number is in operation 24 hours a day. Students must provide their name, student ID number, the agency they are fighting fires for and whether they are scheduled to move into university housing.
