My name is Bob Teruel and I’m running for mayor of Drummond. I’m asking the voters of Drummond for their votes. Help me to make Drummond matter again.

Our current mayor of 24 years, in her own words, has accomplished being financially conservative. That’s it. Wow. I don’t know about you but that’s a pretty short list. She has set the bar pretty low.

My wife Emily and I have been married for 28 years. We have 10 children, 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Together with two of our sons we own and operate the Drummond Motel.

I have been a fireman, plant manager, client relations manager, marketer and business owner. I also managed Pony and little league baseball for 10 years. I’m proud to say that all of our children are doing very well in their family and professional lives. Those are what I call accomplishments.

Let’s talk about things that I will accomplish. Get ready; it’s not as short as hers.

I will ask for the immediate resignations of all council members. I have a group of amazing people ready to go to work to make Drummond matter again.

This new council will bring honesty, integrity and transparency back. I believe these to be sorely missing from our current leaders, as well as a lack of accountability. We will put our community and their needs first, not those of our own. We won’t have our pet projects, as the current mayor does. We will discuss our needs as a community that will benefit us all and not a select few.

I will work diligently to get a quiet zone in town so that we don’t have to hear the dreaded train whistle going through town. All studies show that it is harmful to us all. The mayor and her council have ignored the problem. It can be done. It has been done in other parts of our great nation.

I will form a committee of some parents and young adults to bring ideas to the council of activities that they would like us to do. We could have dances, movie nights, something to get them out of the house and socialize.

I will utilize the American Legion Rodeo Grounds which will hold about 2,000 people for concerts, monster trucks, circuses, pumpkin chunkin' and other activities that the community would like to do. You see, we are a community and we all have ideas on things we can do to make our community a better place for all.

We will be business-friendly, for a community needs new businesses in order to grow and stay alive. Our current mayor sends people who want to open up shop here to Philipsburg. You see, they're not welcomed here under her leadership. Imagine the jobs coming to Drummond, bringing with them families and our property values going up.

Five and a half years ago my wife and I attended our first council meeting. They were very uninviting. They have been the same way every time. You see, they don’t want anyone there. Former Councilwoman June Bowls, when I asked why there wasn’t anyone there, said that the townsfolk didn’t care to be involved so they had to make all the decisions for us. I don’t believe it.

My council will be inviting. In fact, I will personally invite folks to our meetings.

I need your votes to make Drummond matter again. There are only a small number of votes in our town. Every vote counts. If you have voted already but would like to change your vote, you can do that. Thank you, and God bless.
