I’ve been pleased to see such a lively discussion on this page about Missoula’s mayoral race. It’s just one more indication of what a strong civic culture we have developed in this community. I also appreciate the willingness of two good people to serve the community as mayor of Missoula.
As one who was privileged to hold that office for several years, I know something of the challenges that come with it. Governing a community as robust, vibrant and diverse as Missoula has become steadily more challenging as the community grows and changes.
John Engen has not only brought to the office the skills required for that very considerable challenge, but he has steadily deepened and extended those skills during his tenure. He has been able to do that because he is humble enough to be always open to learning.
We are fortunate to have two dedicated public servants willing to serve as mayor of Missoula, and we are especially fortunate that John Engen is willing to serve another term. I urge you to take him up on it.
