Here are some reasons why Carla Mettling’s call for support of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) makes sense ("GPE enables stakeholder education," Dec. 17):
All children in our world deserve an education, yet 263 million don’t get one. Education benefits include better health, higher earnings and less conflict.
The GPE plans to partner with countries to give 25 million children the chance to start school over the next three years. The benefiting countries invest 20 percent of their budget to cover costs at the beginning, eventually taking over the entire cost.
U.S. Sens. Jon Tester and Steve Daines and U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte are being asked to cosponsor bipartisan resolutions (House Res. 466 and Senate Res. 286) that 78 members of the House have already cosponsored.
This is the time to call or write these elected people who represent us in Congress and tell them education matters, support the GPE!
