I want to send a heartfelt thank you to the noble young man behind me at the store.

The clerk rang up $124.06 and I wrote a check for that amount. When she asked for identification, to my alarm, I couldn't find my drivers license. I always keep it in the same pocket in my purse, where it is handy — but not today. I searched, to no avail.

The young man behind me was very patient. I avoided eye contact with him because I was so embarrassed. He finally asked how much my groceries were. When he heard $124.06, he said, "I'll pay for them for you."

I couldn't believe my ears. Most often the guy behind is anxious and irritated to be delayed, and here he was offering to pay for my groceries!

As much as I admired him for his patience and kindness, I couldn't accept his offer. I thanked him and used my debit card.

All I can say is that there should be more people such as him in this world. I thank the Lord for him, the patient clerk, and my daughter who found my driver's license. I am truly blessed!
