A recent editorial notes the importance of Sunshine Week, a nationwide observance of the concept of openness of government and the crucial role that newspapers, reporters, new stations and news anchors play in bringing truth to the people.

Sinclair Broadcasting, America's conservative/largest local TV owner (Montana's KECI Missoula/KCFW/Kalispell/KTVM/Butte/KDBZ/Bozeman) has turned its news anchors, including our own Laurel Staples and Steve Fetveit, into advocates of President Trump's war on the media, ordering them to mouth a mandated right-wing script parroting "fake news" allegations. To see this irresponsible propaganda ploy, go to You Tube Deadspin/Sinclair video.

The Lee Enterprises corporation that controls Montana's major newspapers (except in Great Falls, Bozeman and Livingston) are in the news because two of their newspapers have voted to unionize. After the Casper Star-Tribune (Wyoming) voted to collectively bargain, Lee laid off their award-winning editor. Ironically, Lee has declined to comment. The Missoula Independent is currently involved in bargaining activity. Watch for this result.

News reporters are our lifeline to the truth and the legal framework provided for in our Constitution. Please read, research and find journalists who retain credibility and give us facts that help us make intelligent and informed decisions. Let the sunshine in.

Pat Bradley,

Twin Bridges
