I am glad we have a Congress that finally wants to protect our forests. I totally support U.S. Sen. Steve Daines and his plans to release the Sapphire Wilderness Study Area.
If we don't start removing our dead trees and thinning our forests, we will end up like California. The environmentalists and their lawyers have stopped most of the timber sales in California. Most of the mills shut down and loggers have moved away.
Now Gov. Jerry Brown is left with millions and millions of dead forests with no one to clean it up. He has declared California a disaster area and is using executive order to form a Tree Mortality Task Force. They said they need to start up a least 30 sawmills to take all the dead trees.
Many of the hiking trails are all blown in and lost forever. In 2011, 400,000 tress blew over in on night. There is no money to open all these wonderful trails because the money is spent fighting fires.
Our forests in Montana are just as bad. The environmentalists have stopped our job from removing dead timber around Georgetown Lake. It is time we take our forests back.
