I read the Feb. 4 Letter from the Carlsons in Corvallis with alarm. The letter depicted Democrats "sitting on their hands and looking angry" when "patriotism" was at the center of the recent Donald Trump State of the Union Address. Can democracy possibly survive this dastardly behavior?
Curiously, I don't remember a similar outrage when, during a Barack Obama address, a Republican legislator loudly called the president a liar. Wasn't it Winston Churchill who said that "patriotism is the last refuge of scoundrels"?
You smear U.S. Sen. Jon Tester, writing about his supposed "rudeness," yet provide no evidence to support that claim. You suggest that military men shouldn't vote for Tester, yet he has been a leading advocate of improving the VA health care system.
Trump avoided military service but I didn't, and I plan to vote for Senator Tester in the Fall.
