This letter is to alert animal guardians of a valuable online service offered by the Montana Department of Labor. This service provides public access to information regarding veterinarian's licensed in the state of Montana. This “licensee lookup” allows one to check if a veterinarian is currently licensed, as well as discover if there has ever been any record of disciplinary action filed.
To access, go to: MT LicenseeLookup (https://ebiz.mt.gov/POL/GeneralProperty/PropertyLookUp.aspx). You can search with just the vet's last name. When your search results are displayed, click on the licensee's number. Once the licensee's record is displayed, click the very small triangle, in the blue bar (to the left of “Action”).
If you are not comfortable with the online process, please call the Montana Board of Veterinary Medicine at 406-841-2319 for this information.
My family's beloved dog, Ellie, was the victim of a trusted veterinarian's unprofessional conduct. She was a member of our family. I can never erase her pain and suffering, nor the heartbreak that will forever be in my heart. I can, however, hope that others will use this service, as a possible means to avoid an experience such as ours. Please use this tool now to look up your current or prospective veterinarian.
