MISSOULA — The Missoula Osprey dropped their third consecutive game as they struggled to recover from a poor first inning.
Mustangs left fielder Satchel McElroy led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run to left field. Five batters later, Alejo Lopez crushed a two-out, three-run home run that put Missoula down 4-0 and behind for good.
The O's collected six hits and seven walks but managed only two runs. They left 11 runners on base and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Joey Rose had Missoula's lone RBI and was the only Osprey with more than one hit.
The Osprey fell down 5-0 in the third inning when Hendrik Clementina hit a solo home run to center field.
O's starting pitcher Edgar Martinez dropped to 1-2 with the loss. He gave up five runs on nine hits in five innings, walking one and striking out four.
Even when the O's kept the fly balls in the park, the Mustangs scored a run in the sixth on Zeke White's sacrifice fly to center field.
The Osprey got on the board in the seventh inning as Eduardo Diaz scored on a wild pitch.
They gave the run back in a similar manner as McElroy was allowed to score when O's reliever Yeison Sanatana balked in the bottom of the frame.
In the eighth, Lopez struck for an RBI triple, and Montrell Marshall drove him home with a single up the middle to put Missoula down 9-1.
The O's added a run in the ninth when Joey Rose singled home Gabriel Maciel.
