GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Edgardo Fermin had three hits and scored three runs, and Chris Viall struck out 11 hitters over five innings as the Columbia Fireflies topped the Greenville Drive 7-1 on Monday.
Viall (1-0) picked up the win after he walked four while allowing one run and two hits.
Greenville tied the game 1-1 in the fourth after Marino Campana hit an RBI single, driving in Everlouis Lozada.
Columbia answered in the top of the next frame, scoring three runs to take the lead. Jay Jabs and Quinn Brodey drove in one run each en route to the three-run lead.
The Fireflies later added two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth. In the eighth, Walter Rasquin hit a two-run home run, while Matt Winaker hit an RBI single in the ninth.
Alex Scherff (0-2) went 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and four hits in the South Atlantic League game. He also struck out three and walked six.
