OGDEN, Utah — Linebacker Mac Bignell and punter Jered Padmos, each of Montana State, won Big Sky Conference player of the week awards Monday.
Bignell, a senior from Drummond, earned co-defensive honors two days after the Bobcats defeated rival Montana 31-23 in the regular-season finale in Bozeman. Bignell had 10 tackles, 2½ tackles for loss and a fumble recovery as MSU beat the Grizzlies at home for the first time since 2005.
Bignell shared the defensive award with Weber State cornerback Taron Johnson, who had two interceptions in the Wildcats’ 35-7 win over Idaho State.
Padmos, a sophomore from Boulder, was named special teams player of the week. Padmos averaged 42 yards on seven punts with a long of 51 yards. He pinned Montana inside its 20 yard line four times. For the season, Padmos pinned opponents inside the 20 a total of 16 times.
Eastern Washington receiver Nic Sblendorio was named the Big Sky’s offensive player of the week on Monday. Sblendorio caught nine passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns in the Eagles’ 59-33 victory over Portland State on Saturday.
