Montana senior running back Treshawn Favors rushes for yards as linebacker Trase Le Texier tackles on Friday at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. Favors ran for a scrimmage-high 77 yards.

Where Gresch Jensen was the big mover in last week's scrimmage, Reese Phillips was the star in Friday's second simulated game.

Phillips' big day (13-18 for 140 yards and two TDs) coupled with Jensen's less-than-stellar outing (three interceptions) would suggest that Phillips is strengthening his lead in the battle for the No. 1 QB spot. He and Jensen split the reps with the first team on Friday while Caleb Hill guided the twos.

There's a few other positions that may have movement in the depth chart as well.

At running back, redshirt freshman Rey Green moved past senior Treshawn Favors for first-team snaps on Friday. Favors, though, responded by running for 77 yards on just eight carries.

Sophomore Colin Bingham was the No. 1 H receiver over senior Josh Horner. Bingham had no catches while Horner had a pair of 23 yards.

With projected starting left tackle David Reese out this spring, Conlan Beaver filled in with the 1s Friday after Thayne Jackson was there last week. Both big redshirt freshmen had some snaps with the first string though.

The same was true of Evan Epperly and Josh Sandry at strong safety after Epperly's two-interception opening scrimmage.

With nose tackles David Shaw and Brandt Davidson both out Friday, junior Kyle Davis handled first-string snaps and was backed up by senior Myles McKee-Osibodu.

Sophomore Cy Sirmon was the No. 2 defensive end after lining up as No. 2 outside linebacker last week. Cy Steele took his place in the depth chart this week opposite walkon Hunter McKenzie, who had a big day with nine tackles.

Tim Semenza was the No. 1 kicker in last week's scrimmage and may have moved down. Brandon Purdy kicked all the PATs after touchdowns by the first stringers while Semenza had a pair of field goals with the 2s. That doesn't necessarily mean Purdy overtook Semenza, rather perhaps PATs will be Purdy's duty while Semenza kicks field goals after his issues with PATs last year. Time will tell.
