Kalispell is celebrating Bill Epperly and his nearly 50-years of coaching experience this month ahead of the longtime Flathead High School mentor's induction into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame next month.
Family, friends and past student-athletes of Coach Epperly's are invited to a gathering at the Flathead gymnasium on Friday, May 12 at 7 p.m. in honor of Epperly, who will be inducted June 20 in Peoria, Illinois. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Epperly's long coaching road began in 1959 at Bozeman Rosary High School and 46 of his 49 total years in coaching have come at the high school level. He also spent three years at Montana Tech.
He guided the Braves to two Class AA state basketball championships. The two-time Montana Coaches Association Coach of the Year was inducted into the MCA Hall of Fame in 1990.
Epperly was a also a longtime assistant track coach at Flathead, specializing in the high jump. Sudden health problems forced him to step away from the post this spring though.
